one of my favorite things is coming home but la seriously has changed me. i am always freezing. it's comical really, the temperature drops below 60 and suddenly were living in the frozen tundra. everyone's complaining, people are bundles in puffers, gloves, and boots. the weather makes me finally feel the holiday spirit and i am here for it. i have never been one to enjoy the shorts and tank top weather, so this is my prime. i love wearing jeans and a big ol' jacket and the ugg comeback has been very ideal for these freezing cold conditions. to get through this icicle we are living in people tend to favor the same outfits each day. i mean it's understandable, we aren't willing to sacrifice perpetual goosebumps for a statement of a fit. i've noticed, the scarf is the cherry on top. in the cold, outfits can sorta kinda just all look the same. accessories are essential to elevate a look. no one needs 6 different puffers, one and maybe two will do. what makes people look so fitted up in the cold? accessories, especially scarves. whether it's chunky jewelry, hats, beanies, knits, berets, scarves, the opportunities are endless. the scarf is one that has had a long history in fashion and i have overlooked its chokehold on the world of fashion.
because i have been so obsessed with scarves recently, i have been trying to implement one in each and every outfit of mine. my mom found this adorable dark navy and yellow scarf - she originally bought it to wear to Cal games but it somehow ended up in my closet (oops). these pictures are not the best for sure, but i do really like the new balance 608s with the wide leg light wash and an oversized blazer. i feel like the off-brand version of matilda djerf. i finally figured out what it is, scarves make me feel like i'm an adult which is probably silly but i swear, you need to try it. they are the key to what makes you look effortlessly put together which is essential when the temperature drops below 60.

this week i knitted a scarf because i walked into michael's (one of my favorite places in the world) and found the most incredible yarn. it is a multicolored purple hairy yarn, it reminded me of the yarn in the scarf that bella hadid is wearing in this picture. she looks so cool, the model off duty, the girl everyone you aspire to be in when you're in middle school, she's just too cool to handle. i was so inspired by this texture that i needed one of my own.
in bella's outfit, the scarf is what seals the deal. it transforms the yellow t-shirt and oversized jacket to something much more than just a basic look we see as we walk the streets. she is making a bold statement and claiming her title as a fashion icon. it's long and the combo of fluff and purple is the perfect addition to any puffer, sweater, or t-shirt. for my fit, it makes it fun, adds a pop of character and color. i love the way a scarf can turn something basic into something much more playful.

i have always been an avid gilmore girls watcher but it wasn't until my 10th time rewatching that i noticed the amount of scarves that are worn in this show. whether it's thick or thin, scarves seem to be a staple in the gilmore girls' wardrobes. while watching gilmore girls, this outfit stood out to me. not only because it's a pretty terrible stylistic decisions (not sure what rory was thinking here - too much freedom since her graduation from the chilton uniforms i guess) but it does to show how in a lot of cases there's a pretty insignificant need of this scarf for anything other than a spruce. she's already wearing a high neck sweater so let's hope she threw on this to add character.

a scarf can elevate an outfit from bland to bold. it adds a necessary color, pattern, or texture needed to create a harmonious look or make you stand out. the scarf can be bold or subtle, it offers a means of adding one's personality and style to their look. scarves are the key to set yourself apart from the others. this is one look of rory's that i find best explains what i mean when i say a scarf can set you apart. the regularity of the school uniform makes it so each student really doesn't have the freedom to show who they are through their clothes. i like this look because rory is owning her look, and expressing her personality through this nuance of her uniform.

i especially love the outfit lorelai is wearing, the pink coat, pantsuit, long black skinny scarf... perfection. the scarf adds a layer of casual elegance. she takes it a step further with the gloves which would be questionable at first for me, but i adore this look. she looks effortless, ready to have a girlboss day running the inn. she takes working woman to a new level of fun and elegance.
moral of the story whether they're thick, chunky, thin, or fluffy, it doesn't matter, they add personality to every outfit.
